Strong collaboration between research and industry
Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality is working purposefully to develop the area as one of Europe's strongest knowledge and university cities through collaboration in Science City Lyngby. The strategy is based on partnerships between companies, research environments, and public actors, who together develop new solutions and innovation.
The area aroundthe Technical University of Denmark (DTU)plays a central role in this environment. Here, students, researchers, and businesses come together in close collaboration, creating new ideas, businesses, and jobs.
This link between knowledge, research, and business is one of the main reasons why many companies choose to establish themselves in Kgs. Lyngby.
A municipality in development
Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality is almost fully developed, and therefore the municipality is working strategically to develop existing urban areas and business districts.
Several of the business areas in the municipality are characterized by a mix of research, offices, production, and services, often located close to both urban life and residential areas.
This creates a more integrated city, where workplaces, education, and urban life are close together.

Urban development along Lundtoftegårdsvej
One of the areas where this development is particularly visible is alongLundtoftegårdsvej, where we ourselves own a property. Here, the municipality is working on urban and commercial development along the Helsingør motorway and in the area around Dyrehavegårds Jorder.
Since 2015, several areas have been developed for new commercial buildings, including offices, research facilities, and hotels.
This development is part of the municipality's strategy to create modern business areas with space for companies, innovation, and new jobs.
Close to Copenhagen and the rest of the region
Kgs. Lyngby is strategically located north of Copenhagen with direct access to the Helsingør motorway, which connects the area with both the capital and North Zealand. At the same time, Lyngby Station serves as an important transport hub with S-trains and regional trains providing quick access to Copenhagen, Hillerød, and the rest of the capital region. In addition, the upcoming light rail will make it even easier to get to and from the area.
The area is also easily accessible to cyclists via the regional network of super cycle paths, and the upcoming light rail on Ring 3 will further strengthen connections between Lyngby, DTU, and the surrounding business areas.
The strong infrastructure makes it easy for employees, customers, and partners to get to and from the area—whether by car, train, or bicycle.

Why is it called Kongens Lyngby?
The name Kongens Lyngby dates back to the Middle Ages. Originally, the area was simply called Lyngby, which means "the town in the heath." The addition of "Kongens" (the King's) arose because, in the Middle Ages, the land in the area belonged to the crown and was therefore royal property.
Over the centuries, the town developed from a village into an important trading town along Lyngby Hovedgade, which served as a connecting road between Copenhagen and North Zealand. With the establishment of the railway in 1863, the town gained even stronger connections to the capital, which kick-started the development that has today made Kongens Lyngby one of the central towns north of Copenhagen.
Today, Kongens Lyngby is known as a modern university and business town, where history can still be experienced in urban environments such as Bondebyen and along the historic shopping street Lyngby Hovedgade.
